Christmas Camper Beaded and Sequined Ornament

Here are the links to the short and long videos about this ornament and below those links are pictures of the ornament and all the materials I used and some info on how I made it. On my long video there is a link in the description for my actual tutorials.

I started this project with felt, beading thread, beading needles, sequins and seed beads and a camper cookie cutter set and ink pad.

First thing I do is stamp the cookie cutter on my felt and cut it out. To make the two different sections, I used the one for the top to divide the larger camper into two pieces

This is the cookie cutter set I purchased from Amazon years ago. It is no longer available but there are so many cute camper cookie cutters now that are even better than mine is.

A bunch of the pieces all cut out after I stamped them , see below.

I use an ink pad and stamp my felt and then cut out with small scissors. So easy to do and then did the same to cut the bigger piece into two parts.

I used two pieces the same size for the front and the back, one to sew the actually ornament on, and the back to close it up and edge together.

I then cut out a back to stitch the camper on as I added the sequins and seed beads.

If you have never made any kind of ornament, here is the link to my basic tutorial to get you started, than I will show more pictures of my supplies.

Here are the materials I used to create the camper

Seed beads, the ones I used for this piece mainly bought at Hobby Lobby , mostly to show you you can find the materials easily, but I did buy one of the bags at Aura Crystals, however Hobby Lobby has one pretty close and pretty cheap, always buy on the half price sale, which is on a good part of the time.

These are some examples of what Hobby Lobby has, they are great quality and very reasonable and more often than not, what I use. I do have a lot of bags of beads from Hobby Lobby that are older, when they clear out an old version of their packaging and get new, when I am in the right place at the right time I buy as much as I can. So, I have lots of seed beads from years of this hobby !!!

A company I buy from on occasion, love these big bags of high quality TOHO seed beads. Aunties Beads is another one I use at times. Again, after years I rarely have to buy seed beads anymore, I have so many at this point.

Sequins, again, after decades of this hobby, I have hundreds of bags of both the seed beads in every color and sequins. I do pick up some at Hobby Lobby that I do like, the red three size to the left of the picture and the blue bag on the bottom is the newer packaging and pricing at Hobby Lobby. You can not go wrong with their prices.

I do purchase a lot of sequins from Cartwright Sequins.

I will put a link you can use, but you can just type it in your search and find them easily.

They are my go to for anything unusual or different. They also have every size and design you could want. I am not connected to them in any way and get nothing for sending you, this is a link I got online, just the web site. But they will blow your mind on their selection. I get the question a lot so I figured I would share their site.

A small sampling of the beautiful things I have gotten at Cartwrights that can be used for this project. They also sell seed beads as well.

My beading thread. It is nylon beading thread. The big one is 3 oz, and I have those in a lot of colors but you can find so many other colors in these small spools on most sites that sell seed beads.I have quite a few of these tiny ones as well in so many shades. Yellow and orange are hard to find, and I have never found them in the big spools, but they are getting easier to find all the time. There are so many different brands now. With new brands are more colors. The only craft store I have found beading thread at is Michaels in four packs , very limited colors. The small spools online usually run about two bucks eash. For someone who does a lot of bead work, a large spool of white is a great idea, I have found great deals on Ebay for around 25 bucks, often with free shipping.

Here is some cotton out of my vitamin bottles. I have been collecting it for decades and have jars full of it. I use it to gently stuff my pieces as it is so easy to work with .

Beading needles are a huge help. They are thinner and make it easier to go through the tiny seed beads, especially when making woven things or the fringe earrings where you have to go back through each seed bead over and over. I have lot of different brands and sizes and base the size I use on whether I go through it once, like the ornaments, or over and over for woven or fringed beaded jewelry.

Hobby Lobby has lots of great options on the needles and you can buy them easily online. You can get these wonderful magnetic cases if you look around as well !!!

Small scissors work best for cutting out the felt, I love these Singer Brand detail scissors and have several of them and then our oldest son gifted me the nipper ones with some other fabric scissors I requested one Christmas, which are great for cutting the threads easily as I work, but any small detail or sewing scissor works. For most of the time I made these ornaments, I used tiny little sewing scissors but they were awful because the handles were so tiny they hurt my fingers if I did too many felt cut outs. So get one with a larger hole in the handles. I buy mine on the percent off at Hobby Lobby but any small scissor will work great !!!

Here is the link to the edging video I have on my channel to learn how to do the edge beading like I did on this ornament .

I hope this post helps you figure out what you need. I will be doing posts like this on every ornament going forward. I have lot of ornament videos on my channel .

Thanks so much for stopping by !!!

I would love to hear what you think !!!
